This year,
72,433 students were served by the program, which ran from February
to May, 2004
-
19 farmers
from 13 different farms participated
-
SEE-LA coordinated
359 visits to 107 different schools in Los Angeles Unified School
District, as far south as San Pedro and as far north as the San Fernando
Valley
-
Most of
these schools were elementary schools, but 17 middle and high schools
also participated
-
Schools
had to have at least 50% of students qualify for free or reduced lunches
in order to qualify for the program
-
96 schools
chose to have the Farmer in the Classroom Program, and 42 chose to
have the Farmer Stand Program (31 schools chose both programs)
-
On the whole,
both teachers and students raved about the program
-
We are
also looking into developing a website that will complement the program,
as well as additional learning tools that will help teachers extend
nutrition and agriculture education far beyond the farmers’
visit
